Ben Hedstrom b.1978 (Australia)
B.Art.Ed - UNSW COFA 1999
Ben Hedstrom is an Australian artist working on Kabi Kabi (Gubbi Gubbi) Country on the Sunshine Coast.
Hedstrom’s body of work responds to subjects that have become familiar over a long period of time, developing a relationship through everyday encounters and experiences. Using alla prima and impasto oil painting techniques, he creates richly textured and luminous artworks reinforcing memories that serve as a record of somatic grounding and interpersonal communication, offering insight into the human experience and the relationships we form with our surroundings. The dynamic yet subtle interplay between colour and gestural mark making not only elicits a visual response, but also invites reflection on the metaphysical principles of being, change, space, and time. Hedstrom's work represents fleeting vignettes of contemplation, suggesting a confluence of the ebullience of human connection and melancholic meditations on the fragility of existence.
