Ben Hedström is an award-winning contemporary Australian artist working on Gubbi Gubbi (Kabi Kabi) country on the Sunshine Coast.
Being present in the landscape and studying natural phenomena are key aspects of Hedström’s artmaking practice. His impasto painting techniques balance gesture with formal compositional elements, capturing the moment of aesthetic connection between the physical landscape and its cerebral resonance. Through this encounter, Hedström’s work suggests a ‘de-centring of the person in the environment and a removal of the differentiation and hierarchy between perceiver and perceived’ (Michael Brennan, 2025).
Hedström’s work has been featured as a finalist in many art prizes, including the Archibald Prize. His work is held in the Sunshine Coast Art Collection and private collections in Australia, the UK, and the USA.
